Goals from Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino secure all three points for the Reds.16:49

Final stages

Oxlade-Chamberlain is replaced by Jordan Henderson in Liverpool’s last change of the afternoon.

The fourth official has indicated a minimum of four minutes added time.

Is that enough for one final twist?16:46

How has that stayed out!?

Danny Ings should have levelled for the Saints.

Valery finds himself in acres of space on the right hand side.

He delivers a cross to the feet of Ings who made a great run to the near post, but he misses the ball and the chance goes begging.16:43

Wow, Adrian will not want to see that one again.

Van Dijk plays a back pass to the Spaniard’s feet.

He kicks the ball at Ings who goes to close him down.

The ball trickles into the net and that is a real gift for the home side.16:39

Salah makes way

Klopp chooses to take off Salah and Divock Origi replaces him.

Alexander-Arnold goes into the referee’s notebook in the mean time.

We’re approaching the last ten minutes of this match.

Can Southampton find a goal to set up a nervy finish?16:36

Liverpool are looking for a third here.

Robertson and Mane combine brilliantly on the left side of the penalty area.

The full-back drills a shot which kisses the side netting at the near post.16:34

Angus Gunn comes to Southampton’s rescue.

Alexander-Arnold delivers a great free-kick which is met by Mane at the far post.

He guides the ball on target and Gunn beats the ball away for a corner with a strong left-hand.16:33

Saints speculative

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg lets fly from range but that is easy for Adrian to deal with.

Liverpool are looking to protect their lead now.

With fifteen minutes to play, Fabinho replaces Milner.16:31

That might just do it!

Liverpool have a vital second goal.

Mane passes to the Brazilian who works his way across the edge of the box, before firing the ball beyond Gunn in the bottom left corner.16:28

Danny Ings almost made an immediate impact – that got the crowd going!

He finds himself in space on the edge of the box before curling a left-footed effort just too high.

Another attacking change follows as Stuart Armstrong replaces Adams.

That was better from the home side.16:25

Liverpool pressure

The away side are seeing all of the ball at the moment and are patiently waiting for an opportunity to strike.

Danny Ings, formerly of Liverpool, has replaced Oriol Romeu for the Saints.

They need to begin asking questions of Adrian.16:20

Half an hour to play!

We’ve reached the hour mark at St. Mary’s.

Sadio Mane’s excellent goal in first half stoppage time separates the sides.

Southampton have failed to trouble Adrian so far in the second half.16:16

Liverpool came close to a second goal and it was the man with the bandage, James Milner.

A corner was cleared to the edge of the box where Milner was waiting to hit a first time strike.

Much to his frustration, the ball trickled agonisingly wide of the post.16:12

Liverpool showed a glimpse of how dangerous they can be on the counter attack.

A slick move sees Firmino with the ball at his feet near the six yard area.

Thankfully for Southampton, Bednarek came to the rescue with a well-timed tackle.16:09

Living dangerously

Oriol Romeu fouls Joel Matip on the edge of the box and the Reds are awarded a free kick in a good position.

However, they cannot take advantage as Salah strikes the wall.

Romeu needs to be careful as he is on a yellow card.16:05

We’re back underway!

Southampton kick-off the second half looking for a route back into this match.

The next goal will be vital in deciding the outcome.

No changes for either side at the break.16:00

Fine margins

Southampton did well to contain Liverpool’s danger men for the majority of the first half, they created some good chances of their own too.

Yoshida’s close-range header was probably their best opening and Liverpool have Adrian to thank for keeping that out.

As for the visitors, they began brightly but stepped off the gas as the half progressed.

The front three were not getting as much joy in front of goal – until Mane took it upon himself to change that with a fantastic strike.

Saints are down, but not out.15:51

Just when it appeared the game would remain goalless at the break – Mane turns on the style.

A wonderful individual effort gives Liverpool the lead at half-time.

Mane has come back to haunt his former club who will be disappointed to go in a goal down.15:49

Superb strike from Sadio Mane!

That is the perfect time to score – just inside first half stoppage time.

He received the ball on the left corner of the box, cut inside and unleashed the powerful right-footed shot which flies past Gunn.

That will change the half time team talks.15:40

Another headed chance for Southampton, this time it is Che Adams.

Romeu curls a great ball onto the striker’s head but he cannot keep it down.

Adams was left totally unmarked there.

There are five minutes remaining before half-time.15:37

Milner returns

The midfielder has been back on the pitch for a while now.

He is dawning the white bandage around his head.

Elsewhere, Oriol Romeu collects the first booking of the game for a strong tackle on Andy Robertson.15:34

This time, it’s Liverpool’s turn to threaten.

A pin-point ball in-behind the Saints defence picks out the run of Salah.

However, the Egyptian blazes over from a tight angle.15:31

Half hour mark!

We’ve reached the half-hour mark and Southampton were asking questions just now.

Bertrand found Redmond on the left, he darted to the by-line and fizzed in a teasing cross.

Adrian gets a hand to it and the hosts could not capitalise on the loose ball.15:24

Huge save from Adrian!

Maya Yoshida rises highest to meet a cross from six yards out.

He does everything right, heads the ball down into the ground but Adrian reacts well.

Top goalkeeping.15:19

Nathan Redmond wins a corner for the hosts on the left-hand side.

It falls to Adams at the back post who turns and shoots wide of Adrian’s far post.

That is the closest the Saints have come so far.15:18

Clash of heads

Milner has come to the touchline to get some treatment after colliding with James Ward-Prowse.

The Saints man is back on his feet, but Milner has gone to get patched up.

For the time being, Liverpool are a man down.15:14

Liverpool are knocking on the door and it’s Oxlade-Chamberlain who goes close.

Salah plays a delightful back heeled pass into Chamberlain’s path.

He is slightly off balance as he drags his shot narrowly wide of the far post.15:11

Sight of goal

Che Adams was almost through there for the Saints.

He latches onto an aerial pass between Van Dijk and Matip but cannot the get ball under control.

Adrian is equal to it and Liverpool survive.15:08

Wide threat

Oxlade-Chamberlain whips in a dangerous ball that is cleared for a corner.

Alexander-Arnold cannot beat the first man and then commits a foul.

The pressure is off Southampton momentarily.15:04

Purposeful start

Liverpool breach the Saints penalty area inside the first two minutes.

Trent Alexander Arnold hangs the ball up to the back post, it’s knocked back across the face and cleared to safety.

Then, James Milner drives towards the penalty area and sees his shot deflected into the grateful hands of Angus Gunn.15:01

Liverpool get the game underway at St. Mary’s.

They are kicking from left to right in the first half.

It’s a lovely day for it, the sun is beaming across the pristine turf.14:53

Attacking threat

Liverpool have their trusty front three of Firmino, Mane and Salah in action today.

Mane netted a brace in the Super Cup on Wednesday.

He returns to face his former club who will be all to aware of his qualities.

We are just fifteen minutes away from kick-off!

Southampton will be keen to get their first points on the board but know the size of the task ahead.

Liverpool have won their first two games of the season and will be looking to maintain their 100% record.

However, on Southampton’s day – St. Mary’s is a difficult place to go.14:31

Shane Long put the Saints ahead inside ten minutes, but Naby Keita drew Liverpool level before the break.

Goals from Mohamed Salah and Jordan Henderson in the last ten minutes sealed the win for Klopp’s side.

Boost for Liverpool

The big news for the Reds is that Adrian starts between the sticks.

He was a doubt after suffering a freak injury when a fan collided with him in Istanbul.
